Idea for a flash of genius

Spring breezes are starting to blow...

Which will soon lead us to take out the white tablecloths and beautiful dishes for Passover. We will dust them off and remove the stains of time. We will polish and clean them so they look as good as new.

How to maintain silver/gold/brass utensils?

Metals are living materials, and as such, time leaves marks and stains on them. This is called corrosion.

Of course, there are differences between types of metals:

Gold is less susceptible to corrosion, silver is more susceptible, and brass is also susceptible.

How to clean and polish corrosion stains? No worries.

There are many polishing and cleaning products for metals on the market.

To preserve the dishes, it is important to check the compatibility between the cleaning agent and the metal itself.

It is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

At AV, we use cleaning and polishing products from HAGERTY FRANCE and also products from CONNOISSEURS.

Cleaning instructions for brass bowls

Test in an inconspicuous area how the item reacts to the material and, of course, follow the usage instructions.

Wear gloves (we took them off for the photo 😊)

Prepare soft absorbent paper in advance (the kind found in every kitchen).

Pour a little cleaning solution onto the absorbent paper and gently wipe the bowl. Sometimes, the bowl needs to sit for a few minutes with the solution. Repeat this action until the desired result is achieved.

Apply cleaning solution

Let the solution work

Wipe off the solution with a cloth

After the process, it is important to rinse with water and mild dish soap, especially due to food use.

Also, it is very important to immediately wipe every washed item with a soft cloth until completely dry. Only then wash another item. This is to prevent water spots from drying on the bowls and leaving marks.

Cleaning instructions for gold/silver-plated bowls

Clean with special cloths or gloves from CONNOISSEURS that contain a cleaning agent.

Start with the purple cloth and then use the white cloth.

Another option for cleaning gold/silver items is with a CONNOISSEURS polishing agent.

Using the same process as cleaning brass items, as shown above.

So, for all the aunts to talk about your stunning holiday table at least until Rosh Hashanah (a stunning holiday table setting in our next blog post), it's worth the effort!

Wishing everyone a happy and sparkling holiday
