Cannes and now

It all started with a conversation I had with my mother, many good years ago. With great excitement, she showed me the new candlestick she had bought: a silver candlestick with five branches. When I asked what all the excitement was about, she told me about the custom of lighting Shabbat candles according to the number of people in the house. Amused by the idea, I answered her, with a wink: "So, Mom, that's it? You've closed up shop?".

Years later, when I was working on my final project (which I will elaborate on in one of the upcoming posts) during my design studies, that same conversation with my mother was the guiding line for me. As I delved into the conversation, it made me reflect a lot on family and its essence.

In many ways, the KAN series in my design is the result of those reflections, and my understanding that my mother had waited many years, in fact, until she bought that candlestick with five branches. In my opinion, from the moment a family is created, it is built and developed and is always subject to transformation.

In designing the series, I aspired to create a new way to connect Shabbat candles with the family, and to give the family the freedom to expand and change over time, with the product changing with it and adapting itself to the circumstances.

Another important point that guided me was the importance of similarities and differences among family members themselves. This is why I created different heights for the branches in the KAN series, as well as a variety of color and shade options. For me, family is the most important thing. It is the driving force behind me.

I tried to convey all these messages in the design of this series as well. You will not find an identical and uniform collection in it. Each collection is a unique and special work of art in itself. Like family.
